Jack up the car and support it with
jack stands and remove all the wheels. If you are
limited on jack stands just take off 2 wheels. |

Remove the brake line from the front
shock using the 12mm socket. Do not pull on these
lines. |
| |
Remove the 14mm bolt from the top
of the fork that the shock rests in. |
| |
Remove the 17mm bolt at the bottom of the fork.
This will require the ratchet with a 17mm socket
as well as a 17mm wrench on the other side.
*Note: This bolt may be frozen, use lubricant
spray and a breaker bar or an impact wrench
| |
Pull the fork down off the shock
body. Pull the fork forward out from under the shock.
There is no need to remove the fork completely. |

Remove the 14mm bolts from the top of the shock
in the engine bay and pull the shock assembly
out from under the car.
** Be careful not to pull on the brake lines.

Remove the 14mm bolt at the base
of the rear shock. |

Remove the 14mm bolt at lower part
of the locating arm. |

Remove the 14mm nuts from the top
of the shock inside the rear hatch/trunck. |
| |
Have someone place pressure on the
rotor and pull the shock assembly forward and out
form under the car. |
| |
Compress the spring until there is no pressure
on the assembly cap. Use an allen wrench and a
12 mm open ended wrench to remove the top nut
on the shock assembly. Remove the cap and slide
the spring off the strut. Then uncompress the
spring.
** Be Sure not to lose any of the washers or
nuts from the assemblies as these will be reused
later.

To reassemble the Strut assembly follow the directions
given with your shocks. Most shocks vary slightly
and will have directions. As a Standard you will
need to trim the bumpstop. Then slide the silver
washer, dust-cover, black washer, spring, assembly
cap and gold washer over the shock.
** On the front shock it is important
that the brake mounts have the notch in the back
to line up with the gap in the top of the fork.
Make sure the cap is somewhat lined up with the
holes in the shock tower.
** In the rear the cap and the bottom of the
shock should be square. *** Note: It is
important how the cap is aligned on the assembly
for reinstalling the assembly in the car
| |
In the rear, inset the top of the
assembly into the shock tower and have a 2nd person
apply pressure to the rotor. Slide the lower portion
of the shock into place while pressure is applied
to the rotor. |
| |
Place the nuts on the end of the
cap bolts but do not tighten. |
| |
Slide the bolt through the shock and lower control
arm. This might require a screwdriver to align
the holes or even pressure for the assistant.
Hammer the bolt through the lower control arm
and tighten the bolt.
Now use the jack to raise the suspension into
place and put the bolt back into the locating
arm and tighten it down.
| |
For the front reassembly slide the top of the
assembly into the car. Put the nuts on the cap
bolts, do not tighten them completely.
Slide the fork up onto the bottom of the strut
and secure the 14mm bolt in the top of the fork.
Then put the 17mm bolt through the lower part
of the fork and tighten in down. Reattach the
brake lines.
**Note: For the Brake lines the longer
bolt goes in the back mounting hole.
Repeat For other Side.
