how to build a cheater motor.
how to build a cheater motor.
My pappy always told me there are two types of racers, cheaters and losers which do you want to be.
Say if ya wanted to build a "stock" ITR to the hilt what would it have. I'm thinking:
B20 engine with stroker
Skunk 2 cam and kit
JDM cast iron exhaust manifold with shield, 2.5 cat, straight through flange and 2.5 B pipe, stock Type R muffler
full port and polish
12.2 pistons, I wana run on the street
lite to really lite flywheel and some full face performance clutch
summer tires on stock rims Azines or something eveb better
maybe a ported TB
Tune of course
maybe a icebox type cheater hose to the bottom of the stock box
ditch the rear wiper
Could this turn a 13.9 @ 99 MPH???
Options:
full roller street cams
aluminum A/C bracket, (should have kept the one from my HX)
non-options
remove A/C
steeper Final Drive
I can see myself trolling around the 1/4 mile with my stock ITR...
Not much else for the autoX as the Type R is about good enough, I'll never place cause I'm too old with no depth perception anymore... LOL 4 good tires on lightweight rims...

When it comes to drag racing an ITR, nobody is a winner.

um I think more than a few would find it odd that my "stock" ITR had a K20 engine in it. But hey it is "stock" LOL

I got no issues with racing my car a 14 second and maybe even a high 13 second "stock" ITR is nothing to sneeze at. It lets me look for 2V GT Mustangs and maybe even the R/T.. Racing is racing and what wins consistantly on the strip in true street trims, wins in at the stop light knife fight..
Take today for instance there is little traffic, 65 MPH highway, there is a red light say 1/2 mile down the road, I let off, the Mazda6 has to flyby me and cut in front of me, I'm in the right lane, taking up my scrub off speed space, by then the light has turned green, I look blink, pop it into second pass on the left, blink back into the right at 65 MPH like butter. LOL ya want to slice and dice that is fine but don't do it in front of me and my R with your coffee sipping Mazda6. Yes I know the Mazda6 is a fast enough car. Point it the R is good enough to do street fighting with the best of them and a little more power say 20 to 30 HP would make it the shiznits, a little more midrange torque would help too, hence the bigger motor size.
I'm still tossing around Skunk stage1 vs stage2, I put big miles on my cars and I know the stage1 is easy on the valve train, for say 60K miles. I don't have any experience with the stage 2 and uprated springs, but I've seen many chewed titanium retainers so I'll go with the Chr-Molly ones.
Anybody put big miles on stage2 and kit?

Re: how to build a cheater motor.
sorry if an all motor build using the stock manifolds does not work for you, you can skip the thread.
I've never seen a "stock" B anything do 13s err .... at least one that was installed in a body with A/C and a couple of seats and tires that could travel down the local street. You will note I intend to do this on street summer tires. I have Yokohama s drives, so I'm looking at 6.5 0-60 kind of hard to get into the 13s on a full body car with that, no matter how much more HP, I'm sure the stock ehaust manifold is going to make 200 WHP difficult to get to.
I don't know what one would consider the heart, but IMO, a stoker B20 is a good replacement heart, the B18C is kinda lacking in the upper midrange. I would keep the rev limit to 8600 just to keep piston speed down.
Anybody with stage II cams and something around or better than 50K miles? I want to know how well they wear, or don't as the case maybe. Also intrested in the CR, I can get 93 here and AFAIK the cams need somewhere in the 12s for CR. I think I can get around 12.5 CR for a 92 to 95 mm stroke or about 12.2 for a 87.2mm stroke, it has been a while since I check on chamber PSI, as my last all motor build was in 1996 /97 time frame and cams and strokers were much more limited back then. So chime in if you have stage II cams and what CR you are have and what is the best pump gas you have.

Re: how to build a cheater motor.
I don't street race any more...BUT....if it was a set race I would definately be checking under your hood. I'd see the b20block and hear the camshafts from a mile away so there goes telling someone that you're ITR is "stock". If you are just interested in revving up mustangs at streetlights and telling them that you're stock, the only one you are cheating is yourself.
ls/v high comp + high mileage at highway speed is a slow ticking time bomb. I had the set up you spoke of with the pro2cams running 93 octane. I drove it 120 miles a day at 80 mph with some spirited driving every now and then. At 42 thousand miles on the build one of my sk2 valves snapped and the rest of the engine was history. The pro2's were visibly worn down as well.
I guess if I'd have to give a positive spin on this..at least your b18c5 can sit somewhere safe until the b20 goes byebye

What is the purpose of this thread, are you asking what times you will run "if" an ITR had these mods? Or are you looking for technical feedback?oldman wrote:My pappy always told me there are two types of racers, cheaters and losers which do you want to be.

Re: how to build a cheater motor.
I'm mostly wondering wtf "full roller street cams" are and why this guy thinks dropping 5lbs from the rear wiper (of all the things and ways to lose weight, THAT is what he comes up with???) will make any kind of difference.
Marc as "stock" is almost as funny

Re: how to build a cheater motor.
cheater motor that has "B20" on it... brilliant. What are you going to do, re-stamp the bolck to say B18C5 ???
If you can't get 13.99 in a bone stock ITR then you suck as a drag racer. It's been done, proof is out there if you look.
If you really want to drag race, slap on some drag slicks, 13.0 is possible.
