1998-0551 Reconstructed

Post by D »

98-0551 is happily back on the road after being totaled late in 2004.... and she's officially my lowest mileage vehicle in the stable now. 109K

This AM:

Still shaking down minor issues here and there, but she past PA state extended vehicle inpsection, I've received a reconstructed title from the state, and Joe has also confirmed her correct production number. (Thanks!) Took me longer than anticipated (blow'd up motor in wifes saturn, 797 T boned, my pickup rear-ended, and broken ankle all delayed the original plan), but it was meant to be a low budget build, time to build much less important and i've only gone a little over budget. All in all, she's taged, R-titled, and back on the road for <$6000; with many thanks going out to some OG's for cheap parts and or donated parts, especially:

Crazy Ed Zygspeed
Asspenny
Clay ILUVTEC palmer
Blue R Marc (the drug dealer of ITR parts)
DavidNYC
and i'm sure others that my :420: memory can't recall right now.

I picked up the non-rolling chasis for $300. It was in a collision from the rear, which also impacted the front into another vehicle. Hatch replaced, rear quarter pulled, and rear taillight body pannel replaced (from a pre98 GSR rear cut). Most all dash/heater core etc pulled from a local junk yard, vehicle harness is from Clay's totalled 98 GSR from way back in the day in O-town. JDM 36mm 5 lug was a killer deal from craig, rolling on some donated (and pretty under-damped) mugen lowdows from Ed. Rear 23mm bar and no front bar currently. I picked up 2 sets of JDM CW ITR doors after 797 got T-boned, and replaced the GSR doors that came on this shell, and replaced the big hit on 797. Some CW front pannels were donated from 797 since she went out for paint and i had a perfectly straight black front clip. Air bags and lights were snipes off of ebay as with some other small parts here and there. Rear subframe replacement took longer than anticipated, but... i have jigs now, so the next time it'll be easy. I picked up a crv complete 5 speed AWD swap on ebay for $438..... yup, and i picked it up in person. AWD trans went to the mini project, B20Z bottom mated with a B16 top end, which i still need to swap valvetrain and ITR cams in. And yes... i cheaped out on everything possible, re-used head gasket, swapped rod bolts without dismanteling bottom end, re-used head studs, H20 pump, timing belt, oil pump, thermostat, from earlier B series VTEC builds. Clutch is a old used ACT from the PeopleMover's R when it used to have some NOS. I tried to spend as little out of pocket as humanly possible. Trans is temporarily donated from #797, and the ITR gearset trans i planed for this car is now in the EG with 797's longblock. Currently running on a stock P73 and throwing a few codes for evap, VSS, and vtec oil P randomly. :p I'm absolutly in love with the FLP shifter, it just makes the 4.78 a good time all the time.

Here's her life history:

most excellent! That's an insane amount of patience/dedication especially for somebody that engages in swed, after 7 years I'm sure most would have given up.

I actually picked her up i think a little over 3 years ago, she had been sitting on jack stands somewhere in Bethlehem for a couple years after it was parted out.

Are you sure it wasn't the E11 announcement? I hope to see this thing in action one of these weekends!
