Computer, PDA, cell phone and other tech question thread.
I'll be the first
This seems logical to me but then I know NOTHING about computers....
If my PDA has WiFi, can I put the old DSL WiFi thing on the computer and have them communicate? Instead of using the very short USB cable?
Btw

If you mean by "communicate" them be on the same "network" then yes... if you have a wireless network setup at your place, have a PDA and another computer, then yes you can do it that way....
However my suggestion would be spend $20 on a Blue tooth "dongle" (adapter) and put that in a USB port on the computer in which you are trying to access.
Then setup a partnership between PC and PDA...
First thought... any MP3 ring tone you could possibly want without downloading anything from the carriers website. Take you time, see how long your phone rings for, then edit the "song" to reflect that same time frame. Say you want a certain lyric to ring...
Anyway, Rob... go the blue tooth route and save yourself the headache.

No, bluetooth is a short range radio. (Like for a wireless headset, etc.)Erik95LS wrote:not sure how strong the wifi is on our phones, but bluetooth (I believe) should be a higher frequency and so a better signal up close.Bbasso wrote:I forgot about the bluetooth... Great idea!
Which can reach further Bluetooth or WiFi?
WiFi should reach further.

Correct, Bluetooth is only good for about 100 ft, with line of sight and around 50 ft without line of sight.
However for what your trying to do, it would cost a LOT more to setup a wireless network (assuming you don't have one) than a $20 Bluetooth dongle. Neither machine even has to be on a network to make this work.

Any suggestions appreciated:
Looking into picking up a smartphone sooner than later. I miss using my old palmVx + microsoft money.... my requirements would be good if not very good battery life, able to be used on the cingular network, full keyboard, open to palm OS or windows based.
I hear some nightmares about treo users and lack of support from palm.... not a big fan of the blackberry style.... just looking for something that is mostly phone, but with usable software.... don't care much about mp3/phone/video....

There is sufficient evidence to indicate that the rate of increase in output per unit increase of input decreases as the input increases

You need to go to a Cingular store and tell them all of above.D wrote:Any suggestions appreciated:

HTC ftw!
I have the ATT 8525 / Herm100.
But pricey, look on craigslist to save money.

They have a number that will suit your needs, but the PPC 6800 line is really nice. Very stable and fast...may want the extended battery though.

I've had a Treo 650 for a few years now, and have always been happy with it. Battery life is excellent, not sure about the lack of support, I've never really had a need for any....D wrote:Any suggestions appreciated:
