"Justification"… Is there such a thing?

History…

This car has been a joy to drive since day one. I had always wanted a Type R, once I could afford one…they stopped making the USDM version. So, I bought a Civic EX (no Si) available at the time. Then low and behold I saw a spy photo of the 2000 R, the next day, I went and ordered #0104!

That's when the waiting began. I was to receive one of four vehicles coming to that dealership in late 1999. After countless phone calls, finally the salesperson called me and said, "Come pick up your car, it's here". The joy! I will never forget that first drive home.

After a few months, I was getting used to the power, and in a particular situation, I could not keep up with a late 80's Z28 out of the hole. That was the turning point on my journey to the "dark side". IT WAS BOOST TIME!

Continued…

In 2000, it was not easy to get a turbo kit for a 2000 model car and particularly a Type R. Revhard was gracious enough to develop one. After waiting several more months, the kit was here. To my dismay, it was not a "bolt-on" affair, and the fabrication began. I designed my own down pipe, since the kit was shipped without one. I have done all the work on this car. The first year was spent just enjoying boost. The second year, I wanted to know how she would do at the strip, and ended up running 13.6s at 109-110mph on factory Bridgestones.

This year, all the planning, research and hard work was rewarded with a 12.7 at 114mph. This finally validates what I've been trying to do all this time. My goal was and still is to have a fast car without all the extra accessories that you see on a lot of cars. IT'S A SLEEPER!

Future plans…

Hondata will be happening late this year. I will buy the rom-burner so that I can have complete control over all aspects of tuning and be able burn my own prom.

I will most probably upgrade the injectors again and run slicks and stronger axles to attain my goal of 11s in the quarter mile. Once that goal has been achieved, I will probably learn how to turn the wheel and maybe do some crossing. Currently I have no plans of selling the car, it's paid off in another 1.5 years, (it's hard to believe it will be 5 years old then!)

Jan - Thanks for your help moderating ITRCA.com. You 'da man!
