Tire size for stock, daily driver rims?
Tire size for stock, daily driver rims?
Well, my tires are bald on my daily drivers =\ I did a search and Trey recommended getting tires in 205/50/15 size. I've decided to go with the Yokohama AVS ES100's but why not the stock tire size (195/55/15) or a lower profile version (195/50/15)? Any opinions on recommended size?
Bear in mind that I have a seperate set of rims for racing (wrapped w/ 205/50/15 Falken Azenis) and that I live in DFW, TX, where the most inclement weather we get is rain every once in awhile.

Matter of taste, preference and price.
Some people would say there's no point in going w/a 195-55-15 when the 205-50-15 is more rubber on the road, and the same price or cheaper.
Some people would say there's no point in going w/a 195-50-15 because it's a lower load rating and (perhaps, some would say) not quite as safe and up to high performance driving.

All personal preference.
Personally, I'd go with 205-50-15.

I have a set of Potenza RE730's, in 205-55-15 for my everyday driving. They're great for daily use, handle rain fairly well, and are a pretty good performance tire. I got the larger size only because I felt the stock R looked a little under-tired, and the slightly larger size seems to help the look a bit, tho I honestly don't know how much a visual difference they really do make.

Re: Tire size for stock, daily driver rims?
I believe the controversy with the 205/50-15 RE010s is that the are built as front tires for the NSX, and have a seperate bias depending on L/R sides.
Just checked TireRack, the Yoko ES100 is 195/55-15 is only $57 ea vs the RE010 @ $123 ea. I'd say the Yoko is a lot more bang for the buck!
205/50-15 in ES100 is $72 for comparison.

195/55 for a daily drive is still a decent option if the money difference is that significant. I like the wide footprint and stiffer sidewall.
Yoko ES100 is supposed to be a really nice tire.

DON'T buy the RE-010 in 205/50/15.
They are specifically made for the NSX and they will wear out VERY VERY quickly. Not worth it, not a good tire for the R.
Now, the 195/55/15 RE-010, a different story completely =)
I'd get 205/50 or 195/55, not 195/50. I have 195/50 S-03's and i'll never get that size again, too over-reactive on the street, following each groove in the road. The car is now way too darty compared to what it is like with 195/55 and 205/50.

that's not because they are 195-50-15s. Every car with S-03's I've driven follows every fuggen groove in the road. I'm used to it so it doesn't bother me anymore.Chris N wrote:I'd get 205/50 or 195/55, not 195/50. I got about 500 miles so far on my 195/50 PZeros on OEM rimz. Grip just keeps getting better, but oversteer is a bit touchy.

Toyo recommends when changing tire sizes that you increase OD no more than 6% and decrease no more than 3%. Increases or decreases in excess of these % can adversley affect ABS.
195/55r15 = 23.44" OD
195/50r15 = 22.66"
205/50r15 = 23.07"
215/50r15 = 23.46" and will fit a 6.5" OE rim without any problem.

Well, anyway....

I have the 205/50 S03's, and they follow every groove as well, although it is a hell of a tire, I like it very much!! I rec'd the bigger rubber as well.
