Planning to purchase, few question...

I am planning on buying a Type R in the next month or so if I can find the right car and had a few questions. I did a few searches and all I learned was the search engine on this site is awful. I have been running GM Syncromesh in my Civics in the past and my S2000 currently. Is this one of the prefered fluids for the Type R or is it different since it has the LSD? Also, I will be autocrossing the car is DS and am looking for a light weight cat-back system that is still quiet. I am worried about droning since the car has no sounds deadening in it. How much does the stock exhaust compared to say, the Mugen cat-back weigh? Or a comptech? Those systems I would assume sound nice without being too heavy.

Comptech is loud and drone-ish. Well, some would say it is not loud but imo it is an annoying tone that will bother you while driving.

I'm not sure of the weight of the mugen twinloop, but the weight difference compared to stock is substantial. I had a Fujitsubo RM-01A on my ITR and it was less than half the weight of the stock catback (sorry i dont have the weights, that was over 3 years ago). The fujitsubo would require chopping off a few inches off the bpipe since it has a jdm length bpipe (same as USDM GSR) and for D Stock you cannot alter anything from the cat forward. Same goes for the Twin Loop. There are two versions of this, US and JDM, the US one is the same length as your stock exhaust, JDM is gsr/fujitsubo length. Anyways, just a fine point since its not that difficult to find someone to modify a b pipe - but maybe not something you want to do.

IMO - the quietest of the aftermarket exhausts would be the mugen. The fujitsubo drones around your head but is not that loud in or out of the car, and there is a silencer made for it, so when you're not at autox, it won't bug you. That's the exhaust I recommend, great quality, light, sounds great.

As far as fluids. Some are using Synchromesh Friction Modified - but most are using Honda MTF. Unless you have grinding synchros or are super paranoid - MTF is fantastic. changing every 6 months on my ITR, for 4 years... never had a grind or any deterioriation of the quality of the shifts. Up to you, really. Those are the only two I hear about people using, except motor oil, which I would NOT use or recommend to anyone.

Honda MTF here, but I have concidered using Redline's MTF. A few years ago I contacted them and asked about the same question regarding the LSD. Afer a few emails back and forth, the Redline MTF is just dandy to use in the ITR tranny with the LSD in it.

You're full of it. Comptech is not loud or drone-ish at all. One of the best sounding exhausts I've ever heard and its a perfect volume. Chris is obviously drunk. I had a Comptech for over 2 years and greatly regret getting rid of it.
