mugen intake, worth it and a dyno please

Post by 94vtec2tone »

im farely new to the forum and have been tossing around the idea of a mugen intake. i see theres a few R owners who swear by it. i have yet to see a dyno or a really good response to if it does perform or outperform as it may most of hte other intakes. if i could get a dyno or a personal experience it would be great. thanks in advance

It's going to be hard to find someone with the kind of money to buy just a Mugen intake and put the car on the dyno to get a WHP gain from just the intake. Mugen is good, we all know it but you are paying for that name. With all intakes you might see maybe 3 whp dif from "the best" to the not so best. Worth the money to you? I'm a name brand whore too but I ran the AEM when I was N/A (so it wasnt to me)

Now days I think the ARC LOOKS better then the Mugen anyway

Since WTDR is down, I can't get to my Dyno sheet...

BUT!!! With just a Mugen intake, SMSP header, SMSP race exhaust (AC and PS removed) and hondata IM gasket...

I put down 192 WHP. So... my point is those quality parts DO make a difference.

I too swear by them, I have 2 of them, one in each R.

What kind of Dyno and was that SAE corrected?! How much power did ur car make stock?! You def must of had a good motor from the factory because those are great numbers with those little mods! Hondata gasket and AC/PS removal arent power adders so with just I/H/E ur car made 30whp ish?!

Well the motor had around 10k on it. Was on a DynoJet at LHT Performance, tune by none other than John out there. I know it was around 90 degree's and close to 100% humidity.

There was also a Mugen HG, forgot to add that. I did not baseline the car at all. This was my project race car. Remember, the exhaust is a race exhaust, not a street exhaust. It is basically a down tube to a resonator to a down turn. It ends around where the front of the back seats are (if that makes sense, basically, not all the way to the bumper) car is WICKED loud as many can attest to that.

While the Hondata IM gasket will not "add" power on a dyno, it will "keep already there power" on the street as intake temps rise. Also, the PS and AC removal will not "add" HP, but it will not take away it either. :)

Oh, trust me I feel u on the Hondata gasket...Im running one too  Oh yea and no power steering either :P

But yea makes sense now with the head gasket giving you that extra whp.

The HG, suprisingly won't do all that much. We are talking very minimal decrease in clearences/increase in CR.

While I think it "helped" I believe it was more the mods and not so streetable exhaust. :)

I agree and personally would buy new as well...

But that's $700 shipped for a 2k mile intake... so $750 plus about $40 for shipping now your looking at almost another $100 for the intake.

Just a thought... anyway... carry on.
