while driving the R today i noticed a very quiet whistling type noise coming from the front end while accelerating slowly at 3500-5000rpms, then it goes away.
unless one is really listening to the car it is not noticable to the ear.
perhaps there is a post on the site already adresseing the problem.
could it be a bearing or something?
just wanted to see what it was before she goes into the dealership thursday

That whistle is most likely from the cold air intake.. nothing to worry about.gosox2003 wrote:just CAI and short shifter.

Re: Wierd noise?
Before you assume that it is definatley the CAI you should take a second listen or replace your CAi with the stock Air intake.
I am breathing thru stock and I stil have a bit of whistle...and it is subtle as hell...but once you notice it you cant ignore it. Its not the T/B and its not a belt.
Iv'e posted a few times about this..but havent isolated it quite yet.
The car is going to the stealership (still under warranty) to rule out any bearing ish. In the mean time, cut a length of rubber hose and hold one end to your ear and one end at the PCV valve. If that whistles swithch it. Rule that out first ($16.00).
Ill tell you what they tell me.

it's the intake, if you have a aftermarket filter that's a open cone shape, you'll hear that noise, it doesn't have to be cold air, it can be hot air, i have a hot air, and mine does that, it's just that when the air is sucked in through the filter, it goes in a swirlin motion, and creates that whistlin sound, it's perfectly normal, no need to worry, just think of it as a turbo, and your spool is boostin up, hahahaha.

Re: Wierd noise?
I believe someone said something about a noise like this coming from the Clutch? It was in a post like Last week or something.
I kinda vote for the Intake being the culprate. I never noticed it on my Civic but since the R lacks the sound deading material I guess it's more noticeable

Re: Wierd noise?
It's the intake. I had AEM CAI also in my car before. To tell you the truth, I think my car ran slower with it in, then with the stock air box. It ran even slower with the Bypass put in (yeah, it rains in California). Anyway, I put my stock air box back in, and love it. It's not nearly as loud (always a plus). I think at first, with the AEM CAI, you feel faster because you "sound" faster. I don't know if that makes sense to any of you. Good luck with whatever you do though.
