Planning To Sell The ITR, Have Some ?'s

Post by Chris »

After owning her for 7 years, and saying "I'll never get rid of this car" countless times I'm finally at a point in life where getting rid of the R is probably a smart decision. The car has been paid off for a couple of years now, and its been nice not having 2 car payments, but I also now have 2 kids and that combined with other things I have come to the conclusion that its just not a practical car to have. On top of that the market for ITR's seems to be pretty good right now.

Pretty much my main question is what would a good starting price to ask for? It's a 97 ITR (#107) with 91K miles. It has never seen a track or strip. Just been my daily driver all these years (thats sad, I know  ). It has some road wear such as rock chips and stuff, but other than that its in really good shape. It has a comptech header and an AEM CAI. Those are the only mods. I also still have the stock header and intake.

Also I was wondering what the best place to sell would be. ebay, here, honda-tech, etc...

This will be the first time I've ever tried to sell a car on my own like this. The last time I sold a car was just to a friends girl so I didnt have to do any advertising and junk.

Anyways, like I said. I think its just time to move on from the little beast. I appreciate your input.

I would start around 16k and see what offers you get. You will always get lower offers, so consider what you'd really like for the car, and add another 1k or so as it's listed price.

As for where to sell, you have the FS section here, HT and others. I've always had the best luck with Autotrader myself.

Another thing, any maintenance records and such that could be provided will surely help you get every last dollar.

Interior, exterior, engine bay pics would help us give you a value. Just be sure to cover your plates and VINs in any pics. Also list any and all mods to the caR plus extra parts included. Also service work performed over the years. Has 90k mile tune-up work been completed? Without pics I'd guess you can ask $16k...and hold around there for awhile.

As for advertising, here on ITRCA would be my first choice, plus Autotrader.com, Cars.com, Honda-Tech. I would avoid ebay until you get desperate to sell heR, it's a buyers market there.

Good luck with the sale! I <3 '97s

don't forget to whore it out on craigslist too. put it up in a few big cities even ones that are far from you. Say you live in LA, do SF, LV, and Chicago... spreading the word especially for free is the key.

Keep the advertising simple but make a prospecting buyer want to call you for more info. but have your selling shoes on when they call, a weak voice can break a buyer's confidence.

Thanks for the replies guys. I plan to put up a shit ton of pics when I do actually list the car. Nothing bugs me more than someone trying to sell a car and they post up the worst possible pictures.

I will probably try to advertise more in the KC or StL areas than anywhere else. I'd rather not sell it to someone around here and have to see it on the road every other day.

As for maintenance records, I don't have any. Since I bought the car I have done all the work myself or with friends. And the only major work ever done was replacing the clutch a couple years back. I have done all the regular oil and tranny fluid changes myself.
